Bunny Diet

Holland Lops have very sensitive stomachs. Keeping your little bun on a steady healthy diet is the best thing to do in order to keep them happy and healthy. You should always have a constant supply of fresh water for them, this is so important so don’t forget. Pellets are a good way of providing your rabbit with the necessary vitamins they need to become big and strong. There’s many different kinds rabbit pellets but some can be more like junk food for you rabbit. Plain green pellets are the healthiest kind you can buy.

Make sure your rabbit has a variety of greens every day along with some treats once they are 6 months old. If you want my list of healthy treats for your rabbit that my bunnies absolutely love go to the “Everything You Need” section. Treats should always be fed in moderation and never a lot at a time. Having too much sugary and starchy foods can upset your bunnies stomach and can cause other problems. When your bunny is a baby provide unlimited pellets for (6 months) and then start reducing the amount of pellets you give to them and start introducing veggies and greens into their daily diet. Romain lettuce is a good start it’s the best green for your rabbit. You should give your rabbit 1 cup of greens per 4 pounds. I give mine 2 pieces of lettuce every day and night.

When your rabbit is finally 6 months of age slowly introduce small portions of Romain to your rabbit. You also need to have unlimited fresh water everyday. Naturally rabbits prefer to drink more from bowls. Make sure the bowl is heavy because your bunny will most likely tip it over. I like using a cat gravity bowl so I can refill the bottle when necessary, usually every other day because they tend to get food and waste in their bowl. Sometimes I will even find a toy coating floating around. 6 months and up you should give your rabbit greens twice a day to ensure they have the proper nutrients and hydration to keep their gut moving.
