Bald Bunny!!!!!

Blog #2. by Elle

This particular day it was time for my boy Thumper to be groomed as normal. He was shedding a lot because of the change of seasons. As I started to groom him, he closed his eyes and enjoyed all the attention as normal, but suddenly, as I was grooming him, I noticed some of his hair was missing. In fact, some of it was gone! I started to panic, and my face turned red. I started to cry bc my sweet cuddly little boy is going bald! I just stared at Thumper’s bald spot right in the middle of his head.

Thumper didn’t even notice it as he was just sitting on the table staring at me like I was a crazy lady. So I grabbed my phone and started to research what was going on. Then I realized he was just going through a molt it was just a part of shedding and his fur would grow back in about a week. I took a deep breath as I felt relieved. I grabbed Thumper and gave him a slight squeeze and put him back into his cage. Thumper scared the living daylights out of me. I felt bad about his bald spot so I gave him a treat.

Helpful Tips

  1. When your rabbit gets older they will go through a molt, usually after 5 months when they finally get their adult coat. It usually happens twice a year around spring and Autum. You will know they are going through a molt when you notice them start to lose fur on their head. It usually starts there first, and then to other areas. Their hair will loosen and fall out, but don’t worry, it grows back in a about a week. Their molt will last about 2- 6 weeks so make sure you groom them during this time to help them out.

  2. The best brush to use is the hair buster from Amazon. There a link in the “Everything You Need Section”.
